I think Gatton is very special because of our mission, which is to develop progressive team oriented pharmacists who are able to make a difference in healthcare, especially in rural and underserved areas.
We have a strong commitment to teaching and teaching well here, but because of the size, we also have the ability and the facilities and the resources to do research.
We have tons and tons of organizations that really give you a chance to focus on something that you're truly interested in.
You know, our emphasis has always been certainly on our region and rural healthcare. And so we love to make a difference. We love to see our students make a difference in that area, regardless of where they move.
Gatton set me up to be at an independent pharmacy and now an owner of an independent pharmacy much sooner than I expected.
I really came out of pharmacy school and felt like the sky was the limit. I could go into retail, if I wanted to, have some community pharmacy, I could work at a hospital, I could do research. It was really a broad range of things that I was prepared for.
I think every patient encounter is an opportunity. It's an opportunity to make a huge impact in difference in a patient's life.
